Our best seller is a replica of the poster that inspired John Lennon and Paul McCartney to write The Beatles "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite" song which featured on The Beatles "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" album that was released in 1967.
John Lennon purchased the poster in an antique shop on 31 January 1967 in Sevenoaks, Kent, while the Beatles were filming promotional films for "Strawberry Fields Forever" and "Penny Lane".
Lennon had the poster framed and displayed it at his home in Weybridge in Surrey (see picture) while the songs for Sgt. Peppers were written and recorded. The poster is still in the Lennon family's possession in New York.
Although at the time, multiple copies of the poster would have been printed, it is believed that is the only surviving original and has only been shown once in public, at the “Double Fantasy - John & Yoko” exhibition at the Museum of Liverpool from May 2018 to November 2019.
The exhibition told John Lennon and Yoko Ono's story in their own words, featuring personal objects alongside art, music and film, from Yoko's own private collection, some of which had never been displayed before – including the Mr Kite poster.
I have created this replica based on photographs of the poster at that exhibition.
